White Star Liners

White Star Liners make music. Not Boats. They have been Described as a potent mix of U.S indie distilled with a peculiarly English pop sensibility. White Star Liner’s story began with the self-released “The Rural Electrification” at the tail end of 2008. Band leaders Jim Duncan and James Harvey had been on a songwriting retreat with the legendary Ray Davies during the previous summer, returning suitably inspired to hone their debut 12-track album. Listen closely to “Tyre Pressure Was The Least Of His Worries” or “Keep Calm An Carry On” and you can hear the essence of The Kinks English school charm. But the spirit of Grandaddy, Flaming Lips and Sparklehorse is also ever present in songs like “Bugs And Flames” and “Building Impossible Flying Machines”. During 2009, the band played a number of well-received live dates in Brighton, Liverpool and New York and also came to the attention of radio stations in mainland Europe, who quickly voted the album an “English classic”. White Star Liners then expanded their line up to accommodate a trio of female backing singers and recorded the “You Can Do It, We Can Help” EP. After another round of live dates and promotion, WSL released the limited edition “Occam’s Razor” EP in December 2010. This showcased the bands development of a more expansive indie rock sound, which is the direction the band will take for their second full length album. Read more on Last.fm.
