Vena Portae

There are two artists called Vena Portae: 1. A Russian band 2. An Anglo-Swedish alt.folk project 1. Vena Portae is a Russian band formed by Artem Demidov in Barnaul (Altai Kray) in 2006. He started out with dark-ambient, noise, abstract and experimental. Next years the music changed into IDM, ambient, glitch, downtempo. The author started using recorded sounds of towns, trains, nature and people. He calls the songs «photographic tracks». Each song is a real story, an event that becomes a sound. In 2011, Katerina Zlobina joined the band. She influenced the general sound of the band by beautiful singing and playing melodica (“blow-organ”). Since then Vena Portae have started creating songs using acoustic instruments: acoustic guitar, glockenspiel, metallophone, percussion, Native American flute etc. Acoustic sounds and sounds of nature interweave charmingly with electronic music. Vena Portae give concerts in town and out of it. The band also takes part in different performances, art exhibitions, festivals, installation art etc. In 2008, Vena Portae played at the international festival “Khan Altai“. In 2010, 2011, Vena Portae performed at the festival GVOZDI (Altai Kray, Barnaul), at “Meating“ (Gorny Altai), at ”Electronic eclectism of Barnaul” at art-club D-9. In 2011, the band composed music for the theatre performance “Children of the Sun” by Nadezhda Prochorova. Vena Portae also collaborate with experimental multi-instrumentalists. In December 2011, the band performed at photoinstallation “Deep Landscapes” by Alexandra Puchkova featuring multi-instrumentalists playing their photographic tracks full of sounds of nature. 2. Vena Portae is an Anglo-Swedish alt.folk band made up of Dom Coyote, Emily Barker (Emily Barker & the Red Clay Halo) and Ruben Engzell. Dom and Emily also curate Folk In A Box. Their self-titled debut album was written and recorded in Mölnbo, Sweden over a period of a month in the winter of 2012, though it wasn't released until late summer in 2014 due to the various musical commitments of the band members. It was packaged with a bonus CD of remixes, Vänner (the Swedish word for "friends"), created by artists such as Peter Morén (Peter Bjorn and John), Ali Friend (Red Snapper), and Biff Roxby. The band appeared on Dermot O'Leary's Saturday Sessions in addition to touring record shops and venues around the UK in support of the album. Read more on Last.fm.
