The JT Project

The JT Project: a multi-talented force of sound that brings forth a unique musical conceptualization: “a new genre in music called JT”. Adventurous and bold, Jacob Webb (Keyboard) and Todd Schefflin (Saxophone) knew that it would take more than just a passing interest in music to become the creative force that they envisioned. Jacob commands each stroke on the keyboard to awaken the soul with a touch of fire, and Todd caresses the notes to life with every breath. Their love for music and their passion for understanding, what it does spiritually, coupled with their intense desire to correspond those emotions as a musical message, led them to write and produce their debut CD “Love Passion and Correspondence” in 2009. It didn’t take long for their sexy, sizzling sound to catch on – they’ve built a fan list of over 1000 fans, 6k followers on twitter, and over 5k likes on Facebook. Sold more than 2,000 copies of their debut CD by means of their talent and positive vision to share “JT” with everyone, all without the aid of a major record label deal. Since then, The JT Project has been performing all over the northeast. Their numbers of fans steadily increase as the band continues to appear in front of crowds at world-class venues such as the Blue Note, B.B. King Blues Club, Ashford and Simpson's Sugar Bar, and the Iridium Jazz Club in New York. Each performance contributes to the development and refining of their emotion driven sound to create the new genre of music they call “JT”. The JT Project’s music has been featured on WRTI 90.1 in Philadelphia, WPFW 89.3 fm in D.C, WCLK 91.9 in Atlanta, NJ.com, northjersey.com, The Record, Hot House Jazz, and various other publications and blogs. And their popularity doesn’t stop there. Inspired by their fans and fueled by the desire to grow, The JT Project has also recorded covers of prominent artists. The recordings of Marsha Ambrosius’ “Far Away” and Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” earned them kudos and words of encouragement from the original artists themselves! With each recording and video, these rising stars embed themselves deeper into the hearts of people everywhere as evidenced by the over 40,000 views of their self produced videos and live performance recordings uploaded to their YouTube page. The fever that envelops their growing fan base has also helped to cultivate the groups burning desire to write and produce their soon to be released second CD: “Love, Passion & Correspondence Vol. 2” Good news travels fast and far. The JT Project has already received international recognition with the single release of a song entitled “Frame”. A musical cocktail mix of the elements of Jazz, R&B, Pop, and Electro, “Frame” tapped into the international market as an intoxicating blend of sound that made the listeners want to get up and move! The song is selling units in the U.K., Japan, and Australia. Independently, Jacob and Todd are highly skilled musicians whose common desire for melodic perfection constantly drives them to create sounds that make one’s soul soar. Behind the scenes, these vibrant gents also complement each other to form a skilled music production and songwriting team. These production skills are highlighted in the new album, Love Passion Correspondence Vol. 2, that offers an exceptional treat for all the listeners: a track called "Real with Me". Originally intended for a local hip-hop artist, “Real with Me” caught The JT Project’s attention. It moved them so much that they stripped it down and decided to record Todd's vocal saxophone on top, creating a mix of contemporary hip-hop and soulful melodies. The end result is something that definitely has never been heard before and can only be defined as “JT”. Looking Back - The History of The JT Project History was in the making the afternoon that the two gentlemen met. As revealed during their interview with North Jersey.com columnist Sachi Fujimori in an article back in July 2010, Webb heard “…the most beautiful sound I heard in a long time.” Following the sound he happened upon Todd in the midst of practicing his alto saxophone. The two connected immediately; their common passionate bond for music that transcends cultural differences, helped to forge a friendship and a successful musical partnership. Moving Forward - The Future of The JT Project One only has to listen to the funky vocal and sax interplay against the sensual backdrop of drums, bass and keys in “Ezra” or feel the desire to move to the scintillating rhythm of “Real with Me” to be convinced that this hot, young duo knows exactly what they’re doing. Not only are these multi-instrumentally talented men in sync with each other (Jacob is also adept on the drums and bass guitar. While Todd is equally proficient on the clarinet, flute and piano) but during their musical journey they’ve also managed to bring along several other talented musicians with them: Nathan Webb – Drums, Ross Alston – Bass, Quincy Brayton – Drums, April Webb –Vocals, Nat Janoff – Guitar. And yes, Nathan, April and Jacob are siblings. Whether in the studio or on stage at a live performance, this group knows how to reach in and grab the verve, the Joi de vivre, out of their audience and put it to music that makes them nod their heads and move to the rhythm. With the release of “Ezra” a single from the “Love, Passion and Correspondence Vol. 2” CD, The JT Project is heeding the call from their fans to set their passions aflame. Each of the cuts from this CD will ignite the fervor of anyone who comes within earshot. Sensuous, sizzling and soulful - “The JT Project - the new genre in music called JT” Read more on Last.fm.
