Saki Kaskas

Theodosius Kaskamanidis (September 24, 1971 – November 2016), better known as "Saki Kaskas" or "Captain Ginger", was a Greek video game music composer, best known for his soundtracks in the Need for Speed series. Saki played guitar, composed soundtracks, and produced music and sound design. Although he was a landed immigrant from Greece when he was a one year old, Saki lived all of his memorable life in Vancouver. He picked up the guitar in 1987 at the age of 15 and his life was centered around music and sound. After playing in a few bands, he went solo in 1996, when he was offered to write music for video games. Between 1996 and 1999, he was a full time composer with Electronic Arts. After that, he switched over to sound design and in the meantime composed his own music under the name of Captain Ginger. Some of that music appeared on video games and on a spot for the Oprah Winfrey Show. Saki's guitar work can be heard on releases for artists such as cEvin Key and Deftones [citation needed], in the theme music for old WCW wrestlers, and on the soundtracks of games such as 007 Agent Under Fire, Medieval Total War, Need for Speed, and the NHL series. "Callista" is also featured in Bioware's "Mass Effect 2" video game, recycled from Need for Speed High Stakes. According to a Facebook post made on 17 November 2016 by contemporary, frequent collaborator and friend Rom Di Prisco, Saki Kaskas passed away sometime in mid-November of 2016. Read more on Last.fm.
