Perfume

There are multiple artists named Perfume: 1) Perfume is a three-girl j-pop / electro-pop group from Hiroshima, Japan who debuted locally in 2001 and nationally in 2005. In 2001, three 11-12 year old girls from an Artist School formed a group together in their hometown of Hiroshima primarily consisting of Yuka Kashino (Kashiyuka), Ayaka Nishiwaki (A-Chan) and Yūka Kawashima ("Kawayuka"). Because all three members had the Japanese character (香) for fragrance in their names, they named the group Perfume. Kawayuka soon left the group to pursue her studies and Ayano Omoto ("Nocchi") took her place, invited by A-Chan. In 2002, they released two limited edition singles only in Hiroshima, called “Omajinai★ペロリ” and “彼氏募集中”. All three members moved to Tokyo in 2003 and became produced by 中田ヤスタカ. Between the years of 2003 and 2004, they produced “スウィートドーナッツ”, “ モノクロームエフェクト”, and “ビタミンドロップ” under the indie label Bee-Hive Records. During that time, they performed to a one-man live three times. Because the girls were so energetic, fans acquired an appreciation for them. It wasn’t until 2007 that Perfume gained attention, when their single “ポリリズム(Polyrhythm)” became the theme song for a nationwide recycling campaign. The day of its release, it hit number #4 on the Oricon charts and #7 for the weekly ranking, making this the first time Perfume reached the top 10. Almost overnight the group became a success, and to date they have sold nearly 60,000 copies of “ポリリズム”. After that, they were invited to several shows and radio programs. On December 31st, 2007, Perfume performed in a concert titled “Countdown 2008”. This was by far the biggest performance in the history of the group. In February 2008, Perfume released their new single “Baby cruising Love / マカロニ" (Baby Cruising Love / Macaroni), breaking their previous record by achieving #3 on the daily and weekly charts. Since their newfound success, their album “Perfume ~Complete Best~” began to rechart despite being released two years prior. Their second album "Game" charted number one on the Oricon chart. Perfume’s single “love the wold”, the first from their third album ⊿, was released on July 9, 2008. 'Dream Fighter' was released on November 19, 2008 and placed 2nd on the Oricon charts, where it charted for 10 weeks and sold 105,000 copies. The final single from ⊿, "ワンルーム・ディスコ" ("One Room Disco") was released on March 25, 2009. The single reached no.1 on the Oricon weekly chart dated April 1, and placed 59th on the yearly chart, selling 101,000 copies. "不自然なガール / ナチュラルに恋して" ("Fushizen na Girl / Natural ni Koishite") is their tenth major single, and the first to be released from their currently un-named fourth studio album. Both songs were produced by Yasutaka Nakata, continuing Perfume's exclusive relationship with him as their producer. The double a-side single will be released on April 14, 2010. Their third album ⊿ (pronounced Triangle) was released on July 8, 2009, and has been so far sold certified platinum for sales of 250,000 copies. This success can be attributed to a successful string of 3 singles: 'love the world', 'Dream Fighter' and 'ワンルーム・ディスコ' (One Room Disco); as well as a sucessful national tour. Their song Polyrhythm is showcased in the Pixar movie Cars 2. Their fourth album, LEVEL3 was released on October 2, 2013. On April 6th 2016, Perfume released their fifth album, Cosmic Explorer, their first album in nearly 3 years, and on August 15th 2018, the album Future Pop. The following year, the group had released a new, remastered complete compilation of single releases + a lot of b-sides - Perfume The Best "P Cubed". At this very moment the group is anticipating the release of their first mini-album ポリゴンウェイヴ, scheduled for September 2021. 2) Perfume was also a British indie band formed in Leicester, England, and active between 1993 and 1997. They released two albums, "One" and "Yesterday Rising". 3) Perfume is an American band. Originally formed in 1999 in Santa Cruz, California. The band's other home was Portland, Oregon from 2001-2003. Influenced by many groups of the last 50 years, the band's sound was an amalgam of sorts, with heavy drumming, lots of distortion, and infectious melodies that could be heard through the wall of sound produced by this power-trio. They released one album titled "Today's Favorite Game" in 2003. The album features "Natural Bridges," a song about losing a loved one, "Letter in my Living Room," about a friend's drug addiction, and the acoustic ballad "Pretend it's my Soul," which was recorded in Portland's Jackpot! Studios. Today's Favorite Game CD music contains a single disc with 12 songs. Read more on Last.fm.
