Keld Og The Donkeys

Keld & The Donkeys were a Danish pop group from Denmark, who led by Keld Heick existed in the period 1962-1980 The group was formed as barbed wire group (Pigtraad) in 1962 called The Donkeys and consisted initially of Keld Heick (singer and guitarist), Norbert Persson (electric bass), Flemming Jensen (drums) and Bent Scharnberg (lead guitar). The latter two were replaced in 1964 by Henry Nielsen (drums) and Paul Malmquist (lead guitar). The group played at the beginning of music that was inspired by Cliff Richard and The Shadows. Soon Heick began writing songs while the group also played. When the Beatles broke through and changed The Donkeys inspiration for this group, and in 1964 and 1965, they participated in DM in rock. The first year, they obtained no location, but the following year took home the first place. This paved the way for a record deal and the launch of two singles with music by Heick with English lyrics. The following year the group changed record label and was now called upon to record a modernized version of the old popular song, "At the village pond." Number was a huge hit in 1966 and led the launch of the genre that would soon be known by Danish top and under the name Danish pop music. With the newfound success of the group changed its name to Keld & The Donkeys, so Keld Heick also formally emerged as its leader. The group continued to record songs in Danish, and eventually was barbed wire music completely slipped out for an easy and catchy pop style. Songs like "We must go hand in hand," "I'll call on Friday" and "Tjing Chang gullie" paved in the coming year the group's position as one of the Danish pop genre's leading names. In the early 1970s there were a few replacements in the group's crew. As Norbert Persson died in 1971, came Flemming Arleth with the bassist, while Egon Kjær in 1973 joined as keyboard player since Paul Malmquist left it.
