JP13

Rock and Roll band from Athlone. Having started their days as a Wednesday 13 tribute act, Alan and his band JP13 found it hard to get gigs besides the ones great mate Tadhg Kelleher would get them, but enjoyed making videos... They stayed up until the early hours on countless nights with a digital camera in the hopes of making an amusing video to a Wednesday 13 song to show to the people of the internet world. They got anxious to write their own material though as they felt that they were steering away from the "roll" in ''rock and roll'' and after about two years wrote the music to the now-classic "End of Time", they all agreed they were on to something. Not content with one song they quickly started to write more music, in a hurried attempt to come up with songs they wrote the charmingly annoying riff to "Gradual Insanity Twist" lyrics followed and later that night "Gradual Insanity Twist" was written. Before the writing of "End of Time" was finished the short lived "Athlone Music Promotions" group offered JP13 a days recording with Mike O'Dowd at Lakelands Studios, the band jumped at the chance as they were not very good at remembering things and needed the songs to be recorded, seeing as they weren't confident with "End of Time" they decided to spend the day recording "Gradual Insanity Twist." Due to the overabundance of time and the demented nature of the band and their new found friend Mike the song was a success and an intro for the song was recorded on "The Funmaker"; a keyboard that was in the studio. The first day of recording went so well that the band returned for two full weekends in the next year, The Funmaker is almost always present and Mike makes appearances singing or playing guitar or keyboard, friend of the band, and Athlone Music Scene King, David Murphy also makes vocal appearances along with Joe Kerrigan another legendary Athlone man. The first album "spooky ghost sound #5" was released in August 2010. The band settled on the name due to the sound effects use in the song "Number 11" and also because of their famous love of "ghosting" as you can see on the cover, the album had many working titles, such as: Mullahs in a Shed, Ploughing in the Sunset, JP13 presents: The Legend of Mike and The Funmakers, and Alan, The Movie: The Original Soundtrack.
