Fantasma

There's at least 2 projects with the name Fantasma: 1) South African collective that mixes electronica, hip-hop, traditional Zulu maskandi music, shangaan electro, South African house, psych-rock and punk; 2) Rock solo project of Portuguese musician Miguel Correia AKA Mike Ghost. 1) Fantasma, the latest project of South African innovator and creative pioneer Spoek Mathambo, is a five-man collective which weaves together electronica, hip-hop, traditional Zulu maskandi music, shangaan electro, South African house, psych-rock and punk to form a unique, original and fresh hybrid. The godfather of ‘Bacardi House’, producer DJ Spoko joins with former Machineri guitarist André Geldenhuys, drummer Michael Buchanan and maskandi multi-instrumentist Bhekisenzo Cele to complete the line up. Fused by Spoek Mathambo’s futurist vision, Fantasma pulls inspiration from all corners of South Africa: the sounds and spirits of townships and cities as well as the rural countryside. It is diverse not only in its membership but also in its forward-looking music. 2) Fantasma is a solo project of Portuguese musician Miguel Correia that is well known in his native country for his many projects in and outside of the music industry. A praised photographer, Miguel is a founding member of Men Eater, Riding Pânico, Correia and Mike Ghost (his other solo project) and it was a member of important bands such as For The Glory, More Than a Thousand or Devil in Me and Sam Alone & The Gravediggers (the last two as a touring member) . As Fantasma, Miguel travels into a psychedelic world where pop meets rock and dives into deep Portuguese lyrics. Accompanied by many guests, Fantasma even managed to have Mastodon's Brent Hinds sing in Portuguese in his single "Morder para Sangrar". Read more on Last.fm.
