Emile Parisien Quartet

Emile Parisien, saxophonist, was born in 1982. From 1993 to 1996, he attends the « Jazz class » in Marciac high school, where he learns music with experienced musicians such as Pierre Boussaguet, Guy Laffitte and Tonton Salut. During these years, he has the opportunity to meet some great jazzmen : Wynton Marsalis, Chris Mc Bride, Johnny Griffin or Bobby Hutcherson invite him to join them on stage in the Jazz in Marciac Festival. In 1996, he pursues his education in the Conservatoire of Toulouse, where he studies classical and contemporary music, with, among others, Philippe Lecoq. In 2000, Emile Parisien settles in Paris. Since then, he has been performing in France and abroad with Michel Portal, Jacky Terrasson, Yaron Herman, Paco Sery, Rémi Vignolo, Manu Codjia, Hervé Sellin, Charlier/Sourisse, Christophe Wallemme, Gueorgui Kornazov, Eric Serra, Bertrand Renaudin... In 2004, he takes part in the creation of a show, HIP 11, mixing jazz music and hip hop dance. This year, he states his artistic identity by founding with Julien Touery (p), Sylvain Darrifourcq (d) and Ivan Gelugne (b) the Emile Parisien Quartet. Inspired by 20th century composers as well as John Coltrane or Wayne Shorter, this quartet gives an expressionist character to its music, in which improvisation surpasses : thanks to the musicians’ mutual understanding, the band reaches a very personal and undoubtedly modern expression. The first album of the Emile Parisien Quartet is available since october 2006 at Laborie/Naïve. Read more on Last.fm.
