Dahlak

Dahlak is an intellectual young rapper/poet out of Sacramento. He is a member of iLL-Literacy and is a big member on the spoken word circuit. His first album "dual consciousness" released in 2007 and sold out. He recently released a Kanye West tribute "live from the boondocks". This guy is highly skilled and has received some rave reviews from a couple of names that matter, mos def for one. Look for this guy in the future, he reminds me of Lupe Fiasco, but more intellectual and political. In the song "DRI Slow" from the Live from the Boondocks: Commencement mixtape, Dahlak references (I believe) the Amadou Diallo incident that happened in the Bronx, New York. Four police officers opened fire on Amadou Diallo thinking he was pulling a gun, but he actually was pulling out his wallet. He plays up this moment at the end of "DRI Slow." Read more on Last.fm.
