Brecht Hermans

Brecht Hermans is a young Belgian musician. His first instrument was the piano, which he has been playing since he was eight years-old. Later he also learned to play the accordion, and more recently, the guitar. At the age of eightteen he composed his track 'Odysseus'. The piano work 'Odysseus' consists of ten pieces, evoking the story of the Greek hero. After the Trojan war Odysseus is forced to sail many seas, searching for his home land, Ithaka. Brecht performed the music at a unique living room concert at his parents' house in Hasselt. After the performance, the decision was made to record the music (with the help of youth culture centre VillaBasta) so that parts of it could be used in a short animation movie by Pieter Bas. In 2010, more than five years after the making of 'Odysseus', a new album arrived. 'Puzzle / 8 Pieces' contains eight new pieces, all composed during those five years after 'Odysseus'. The art work of the album was designed by Toon Delanote. For the festival Warm Aanbevolen in Hasselt (October 2011), Brecht and his theatre group De Stokerij worked together with the ballet school of Edwina Verdingh to make a performance called 'Labyrinth'. Brecht composed three piano pieces and two songs for 'Labyrinth'. In the summer of 2013 Brecht composed a new EP, 'Lighthousekeeping'. On this short album he experimented with electronic sound effects and he also began using his voice as a second instrument. Apart from his piano work, Brecht Hermans is also part of the Second Hand Band Project as accordionist and singer. Read more on Last.fm.
