The Stunning is an Irish rock band formed in 1987 in Galway. The band is perhaps best known for their singles "Brewing Up a Storm", "Romeo's on Fire", "Half Past Two", and "Heads Are Gonna Roll". They split up in 1994 but reformed for live tours again in 2003, 2006 and 2008, and subsequently. In 1990 their debut album “Paradise in the Picturehouse” spent 5 weeks at number one. Their second album “Once around the World” went straight in at number one and went on to be another multi-platinum seller. The band has sold in excess of 100,000 albums in Ireland alone. Songs such as “Got to Get Away”, “Half Past Two”, Romeo’s on Fire” and “Brewing up a Storm” were massive hits with radio and the band scooped every music prize and award going. It seemed that international fame and stardom would naturally follow. After initially splitting in 1994, Steve and Joe Wall went on to form The Walls, guitarist Derek Murray joined The Sawdoctors, and percussionist and trumpet player Jim Higgins spent a number of years playing all over the world with Riverdance before also joining The Sawdoctors. Meanwhile, Cormac Dunne became one of the most in-demand session drummers in the country. By the year 2000, Steve and Joe had set up their own record label Earshot (now changed to Dirtbird Records) and had released The Walls debut album Hi-Lo. In Sept 2003 the band reformed to play 14 sold-out shows to over 20,000 people all over the country. In 2006 the band completed an eight date Irish tour that Christmas taking in Dublin, Galway, Cork, Galway, Sligo, Castlebar, Ennis, Killarney. In 2008, the band completed a 12-date Irish tour and that summer they played to a massive crowd at the Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally, County Laois. In 2009, the band headlined the Friday night of the Volvo Ocean Race stopover in Galway city on 5 June. Around 25,000 people gathered around Galway docks to hear them play. 2012 was the band's 25th anniversary and they celebrated with a six date tour that Christmas taking in Dublin, Kilkenny, Cork, Castlebar, Donegal and Galway. In 2017, "Brighten up my Life", The Stunning’s first original single since 1993, was released. In 2018, "Twice Around the World", the band's first studio album in 26 years, was released.
